Prada
The Prada label appeared in 1913, its founder Mario Prada, was designing and selling exclusive bags, trunks, suitcases and shoes through two boutiques in Milan, and to some clients in Europe and America. As soon as the signature suitcase, made from heavy, cumbersome walrus skin, proved to be not suitable for air travel, Mario decided to design stylish waterproof handbags and leather accessories.
In 1978, Miuccia, Mario’s granddaughter, took over the entire company. She was a mime with a PhD in political science, even though her education had nothing to do with designer clothing, her sense of fashion was unmistakable. Prada clothing continued to represent mainly leather goods at that early point. The company had been also having financial problems for several years. When competition from Gucci fashion house had taken its toll, Miuccia turned things around and lead the House of Prada to men's and women's designer clothing. Shortly after she took the helm of Prada label, Miuccia married Patrizio Bertelli who afterwords contributed in the role of business manager, while Miuccia focused on designing and perfecting the new Prada look. Miuccia had been making black waterproof backpacks since 1970, out of a nylon fabric called “Pocone”.
In 1985 she unveiled the classic Prada handbag - simple, sleek, black nylon and it became an overnight sensation. The bag was simple, functional and sturdy, practical and fashionable. The high price tag that accompanied the Prada bags rapidly caused an onslaught of designer knock-offs, which only helped to make the genuine Prada articles more in demand. In the 1980’s, other labels were creating designs that played on sexuality. Popular frilly, lacy, brightly coloured garments that were low cut on top and short on the bottom. In 1989 Prada reveals the runway with its prêt-a-porter collection, with elegant, simple pieces featuring clean lines, luxurious fabrics, and basic colours. The fashion world took great notice, and Prada’s popularity rose to the highest levels. By the 1990’s, Prada became a leading force in men's and women's fashion.

Armani
Born in Piacenza in 1934, a small town near Milan, Giorgio Armani went to the local public school and developed a passion for the theater and cinema. He made his public appearance as a fashion designer in 1973-74, at the prestigious Sala Bianca fashion show in Florence, presenting his famous bomber jackets which treated leather as a regular, everyday fabric. By using materials in unexpected contexts and combinations made a defining characteristic of his talent. In 1975, Armani and Galeotti started their own company, Giorgio Armani S.p.A., and at this point founded the Armani clothing label. That July, a revolutionary unlined and unconstructed man's jacket was launched. In 1982, Armani became the second fashion designer to appear on the cover of Time magazine after Christian Dior in the 1940s.
He was one of the first designers to approach celebrities to wear his creations, beginning with then Los Angeles Lakers coach Pat Riley in 1988. He also welcomed Hollywood stars to wear his men's and women's clothing designs at the Academy Awards, winning Michelle Pfeiffer and Jodie Foster. Giorgio Armani has launched numerous lines, including: Armani Exchange (A|X), the most affordable diffusion line, sold in freestanding boutiques that sell this line exclusively. Armani Jeans, a moderate priced collection of jeans and clothes aimed at a younger market. Armani Casa, a innovative line of furniture and accessories for the home. Gucci

Born in 1881, Guccio, craftsman’s son founded the House of Gucci as a saddlery shop in Florence in 1906. Guccio's first talent was his craftsmanship in leather goods. He started out by selling leather bags to horsemen in the 1920’s and advanced to luxury luggage as his clients graduated from equine transportation to horseless carriages. In 1938 Guccio Gucci opened their first retail shop on now famous Via Condotti in Rome. The immediately recognizable Gucci icon, the leather bag with bamboo handle, is created in 1947 . In the 1950’s the trademark red striped webbing is introduced, taken from its original form place on a saddle girth. This became an emblem much like the leather moccasin with leather bit. He created most of his classic styles early during the 1950’s; men's and women's designer clothing products such as luggage, ties, shoes, and the famous handbags sporting the bamboo handle. After his death in 1953, the family took the enormously successful company to new heights by opening stores in Paris, Beverly Hills, London, Palm Beach, and Tokyo.
The 1960’s brought ever greater fame to the Gucci Empire. Such Hollywood stars as Grace Kelly, Peter Sellers and Audrey Hepburn made the brand Gucci synonymous with “chic”. Jackie Kennedy helped by being photographed with the Gucci shoulder bag, which subsequently became known as the “Jackie O”. At this point the company adopts the “GG” logo. In the 1990’s, Tom Ford, Gucci’s newest executive head, has brought Gucci clothing to the center of the chic world, and now forwards a varied line of products including leather fashions, perfumes, colognes, cosmetics, shoes (including the moccasin with the distinctive Gucci snaffle-bit), the "Flora" foulard created for Grace Kelly by Rodolfo Gucci, suitcases, watches, jewelry, silk scarves, sports articles, belt clasps (the one with the Guccio Gucci initials, was introduced 1964), ties, and eyeglasses. In 2005, Tom Ford started designing a line of cosmetics for Estee Lauder, and planned his own line of ready-to-wear and accessories under a Tom Ford label.

How to Look High Fashion

Tired of that grungy, plain T-Shirt and jeans look? Jealous of all your friends that always look like they've just walked off a magazine? Want to be the fashion idol of all your friends and family? Good news -- it's not too hard. You don't even have to break the bank to get that high-fashion look. All you need is some determination...

Steps

  1. 1
Take care of your body. Although we don't love to admit it, having a decent figure makes high fashion clothing look extremely sexy. Eat right(fruits and vegetables) and drink 8 glasses of water a day. Water clears out your complexion and balances your body.
  2. 2
If you are bigger, a fashionable wardrobe can still look stunning. Just make sure that you buy flattering clothes in cuts that emphasize your beauty, not your weight.
  3. 3
Wear good, quality make-up. With makeup, it is all about quality, not quantity. The key to looking high fashion is not only having nice clothes, but a great face! Wear a subtle bronzer in the summer, and a moisturizer that will make your skin glow in the winter. Find out what colors go with your skin tone and eye color. Remember: try to empasize one feature at a time. If you are wearing a bold lip color, try to keep the rest of your makeup modest, and if you have bold eye shadow or liner, keep the rest modest too.
  4. 4
Add jewelery if you are looking to plain. The difference between a T-Shirt and jeans without and with a necklace is huge! Depending on the trend this rule will vary but for the most consistent "High-Fashion" go with more classic stlyes (pearls, gold, silver) and avoid too many plastic, enamel, or wooden accesories.
  5. 5
Pick your trends wisely. No matter what the new fashion is you should be very selective on what trends to follow. No true Style Maven attacks every trend that trapes down the runway. You should own quality (which does not always mean designer) Jeans, and cotton shirts. Because we tend to buy accesories less often than clothing this may be where you should invest in your "statement" or designer peices.
  6. 6
Heels should be reserved for outings and gatherings. One who wears heels to the grocer, dry cleaner, or other similar environments will be deemed as "trashy" or from a lower socio-econimic status. Shy away from running sneakers (although you should own a decent pair)for a more casual shoe consider a flat, loafer, or slide, and for summer a stylish espadrill leather sandal or flat.

Things You'll Need

  • Quality Clothes (Jeans, Shirts, Pants, Shoes...)
  • Accessories
  • Jewelery

Tips

  • I encourage shopping at any store that fancies you. For more high end pieces consider consignment or authorized discount vendors.
  • When Shopping High Fashion, Keep It Clean.
  • Things such as fluro and plaid, which are in style at the moment, should not be the first thing you reach for.
  • Go to the more sleek items.
  • Stay away from prints, as prints will go out of fashion quickly.

Pirates of high fashion

ail the seas or stroll the sidewalks in the flirty, nautical-inspire d Louis Vuitton Cruise 2010 collectio n.

A COUPLE of months ago, uber label Louis Vuitton flew Asian journalists to Sanya, a resort island in Hainan, China, to view its Cruise 2010 collection.

Casual chic paired with the newest LV bag.

To get us all in the mood, we were put up in the swanky Ritz-Carlton, one of the island’s newest resorts (the island consists only of resorts). That proved to be the perfect setting to view the new nautical-inspired range, which was displayed in different villas in the resort.

We wandered around the rooms to get a close up look at the women’s RTW collection and accessories, as well as the men’s Spring/Summer Precollection 2010.

An adorable bag for nights out.

While LV does sometimes come up with discreet pieces, you don’t wear this label if you’re a wallflower. Anything from any of its collections is instantly identifiable, and somehow manages to be flashy yet classy at the same time.

This particular collection was fun, flirty and wearable, and, of course, came with the usual dose of glamour and sophistication associated with the brand.

A jacket and shorts from the Men’s Spring/Summer Precollection 2010.

While I don’t normally spend as much time looking at the men’s pieces, I have to say I stopped a moment longer in front of a beautiful pair of suede shoes which were just gorgeous! And there was a perfectly tailored jacket, paired with shorts.

A well-made jacket or suit will always make me stop and look. There’s something so appealing about the perfection of a cut ... the fit, the seams, the details. I stood admiring it for so long that I was asked if I had someone in mind for it. Me, I wanted to say. I want it.

Stand out in this dazzling, gold beauty.

Another jacket which caught my eye was a gorgeous, black leather one with white sleeves and collar and the LV monogram on the front.

As for the women’s collection, we all fell completely in love with practically everything. I loved the rope detailing running through the clothes, and on the bangles, necklaces, belts and shoes. Padlocks were also a big feature and they accessorised roped bracelets and hung from the back of heeled pumps.

Highlights from the range included a cutesy bright yellow, button bow mini-dress paired with colourful big bangles with rope detailing, nautical-striped dresses with belts of rope as well as tweed suits – for the latter, it didn’t really matter what the material was as there was so little of it.

Perfect for jeans or an evening dress.

Hooded coats in bright yellow and patent black will shelter anyone in style from unexpected showers and the wide-sleeved, swing-style jackets worn over dresses and short shorts were also a favourite.

And I must mention a fabulous blazer with a bow at the back that was a standout.

And speaking of short shorts, this collection is definitely about bare legs. How anyone can sit decently in the mini dresses is beyond me.

The real show stealers were not the bags, as beautiful as most of them were. LV introduced a new monogram nylon bag with rope straps and the Alma and Pochette Lena in patent black. The Mini Noe Rococo was adorable; it’s a little glittery, sequined drawstring bag, perfect for parties. And the Minaudière Trésor in studded calf leather is just the thing for elegant night outs or to dress up your jeans.

What this collection really pays homage to is the shoes. All of us immediately made a bee-line for the amazing, slouchy cut-out boots. They come in glitter, patent, leather and gold versions and you’ve got to see them to really appreciate how fabulous they really are.

The other shoes were equally gorgeous; wedges with straps to keep your balance, the assortment of bejewelled, glittery heels and flats and the silvery, open-toed, heeled pumps with single rosettes. Another standout had to be the deep-red platforms with gold studs and ankle straps – the kind of shoe that looks like a lethal weapon of the fashionable kind.

Playing pirates has never been so decadent.
