Mango (MNG) is a Spanish company which is based in Barcelona but which has expanded to over 92 countries with more than 1000 shops; and with further expansion planned.
Mango's new Autumn/Winter 09 collection is named HEROES and it is full of stylish clothes for the woman of today. There are three definite trends within the collection and these are Grunge, Glam Rock and 80’s. With a host of famous models posing for Mango, notably, Daisy Lowe, Marie Ange Casta and Leigh Lezark, and with Scarlett Johansson becoming the new face of the company in 2009, Mango clothing is going from strength to strength.
The Grunge collection consists of casual urban styles with emphasis on bleached ripped jeans with plenty of volume in the upper half of the body. Glam Rock styles are dominated by stylish dresses, leathers, jeans, biker jackets and accessories all decorated with this season’s must have studs. Studs are everywhere in the collection; from jeans, tops, hats, bags and other accessories. There are also plenty of dark colours with animal prints dominating many of the pieces. There is a definite 1980’s feel to some of the clothes again with maximum upper volume and particular emphasis placed on the silhouette. Black and white pieces are everywhere and hounds tooth is making a comeback in this collection.
The women’s line this season focuses mainly on a narrower silhouette with pencil skirts, slim fit jeans and trousers, leggings and biker trousers everywhere among the collection. Adam Lippes’s influential 1980’s designs are evident among both the men’s and women’s lines.
The men’s line focuses on suits, and jackets combined. There is an array of materials used in the garments including denim, leathers, wools and faux fur trimmings. Boots, shoes other accessories are available for men in colours synonymous with autumn and winter such as greys, reds, blacks and browns.
The Mango official website has striking images of ‘New Face’ Scarlett Johansson in many pieces which emulate the ‘rock chick’ such as dresses, biker jackets, leggings and stylish tops to accentuate her stunning figure. Animal prints dominate these pieces and complement the overall style of this collection.
Daisy Lowe models more ‘Glam Rock’ inspired clothes with blacks, greys and silvers taking precedence and again animal prints are dominant. Riley Keough offers the alternative while modelling softer shades and styles including more feminine pieces with frills and floral prints.
Included in the autumn/winter 09 collection are pieces created by Zuhair Murad, the Lebanese designer who has designed these pieces exclusively for Arab countries. Mango Clothing are planning to open a store in Iraq which will feature these designs. Clothing in this collection consists of pieces with sequins and embroidered cuffs and are consistent with today’s trends, while still appealing to Asian tastes.
Mango Clothing’s collection of jeans this season continue with the slim trend and include designs incorporating zips, leather applications, rips, biker details in the latest trend of tie-dye and bleached looks.
To complete the collection there are beautifully tailored coats and jackets in warm colours. Overall there is a definite 1980’s distinction to the complete collection while maintaining that Mango Clothing quality and appeal.
